By Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley
Happy New Year from me and my staff. We wish you good health and prosperity.
I would like to thank all of you who were involved in any of our many 2011 projects and accomplishments. Without your support, involvement, and dedication, we would not have been able to accomplish our 2011 goals and successfully serve you.
Here are some highlights of what occurred in 2011:
Due to redistricting, we were able to seamlessly transition Pleasanton and Hillcrest Knolls into District 4.
We successfully hosted a Safe Medical Disposal Conference in partnership with the Senior Alcohol and Other Drug Workgroup on October 12
We were able to complete many of the Eden Area Livability Initiative working groups’ goals and created a progress report to measure success.
We kicked off major construction projects, including the Ashland Youth Center, Castro Valley Boulevard street improvements, sidewalks in Cherryland, and Lewelling Boulevard street improvements.
We worked with independent truckers, labor, Port of Oakland, and air quality regulatory agencies to develop solutions to the impacts to minority truckers due to new air pollution regulations.
We created and convened a Blue Ribbon General Assistance Working Group that successfully improved services and resources for GA recipients.
We broke ground on the construction of a new $700 million hospital complex at the Highland Campus.
We passed a resolution calling for the United States government to formally apologize for slavery and for reparations to address disparities impacting African Americans.
Lastly, we addressed issues, concerns, and needs of more than 1,000 constituents throughout our district.
Now that redistricting is complete, I am pleased and excited to begin what I expect to be a long and fruitful relationship with Pleasanton. From the First Wednesday events, to meetings with City Council members, the City Manager, and staff, to a special welcome from the Chamber of Commerce, to numerous one-on-one interactions with community leaders, I have felt the warmth and pride so many of you express for your city.
My goal is to be a partner in Pleasanton’s ongoing success.
My staff and I are holding office hours every Thursday at the Heritage House at the County Fairgrounds (4501 Pleasanton Ave., 925-803-7959). To schedule an appointment with me, contact Anna Gee at 510-891-5585. We also are making ourselves available for community meetings and are getting to know many of the coffee shops in beautiful downtown Pleasanton.
