The Pleasanton Police Department is offering its Spring D.A.R.E. Parent Program starting Feb. 28 for three consecutive weeks. The program is intended for parents of children currently in the D.A.R.E. program as well as other interested adults.
The focus of the program is developing better skills for parents to interact with their children, identify signs of potential substance abuse, reduce chances of risky behavior and address concerns parents may have about their kids moving on to middle and high schools.
The first session will be held on Feb. 28 and will deal with communicating with teens. Robbi Montoya, adolescent prevention coordinator with Axis Community Health, will present.
The second session will be held March 7 and will be a question and answer opportunity with the Departments’ two school resource officers that serve the middle and high chools.
The last session will take place on March 14 and will address current drug trends, drug identification, drug use and signs and symptoms of being under the influence. Sgt. Jim Knox, a drug recognition expert, will lead the talk.
All three sessions are on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pleasanton Police Department, 4833 Bernal Ave. Space is limited. Contact either Officer Ted Young at 931-5147, or Officer Jason Knight at 931-5146. Attendance at all three sessions is not required, but highly recommended. R.S.V.P. by Feb. 23.
