BART mobile polls

Commuters registered in Alameda county can now vote at mobile voting units at the Pleasanton, MacArthur and Fremont BART stations. With America’s recent trends straying from election-day-only voting, the mobile units are the county’s latest attempt to have a larger voter turnout.

Swing Time

More than 200 Hart Middle School students competed in the fifth annual swing dance competition this week. Dressed in ’40s and ’50s outfits, 20 couples will head to the finale tonight at 7 p.m. The community is invited and tickets are $5 for presale and $6 at door, and can be bought at the school, 4433 Willow Rd.

New Planning Commission chair

Planning Commissioner Anne Fox will preside as chairwoman of the Planning Commission after former Chairman Brian Arkin announced his resignation as a board member recently. According to city policy, a vote for the chair is only done in December, so Fox will preside over the commission until then.

Stoneridge trick-or-treating

Pleasanton residents will be treated to some trick-or-treating at the Stoneridge Shopping Center Oct. 31. The mall will hold the annual event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sales associates in the stores will be handing out candy to costumed trick-or-treaters, giving families a chance to enjoy the holiday in a well-lit environment.

Aylet Waldman reads at Beth Emek

Author Ayelet Waldman is scheduled to read at Congregation Beth Emek, 3400 Nevada Ct., on Nov. 2 as part of the Contra Costa Jewish Book Festival.
