Foothill high School senior Nick Christian (kneeling in front row, holding flag) graduates today after organizing a march through downtown Pleasanton that raised more than $5,000 to help the Pleasanton Military Families organization. About 50 joined in the march, which started on the Foothill campus and gained additional marchers as the group wound through residential and downtown streets, ending at the Pleasanton Public Library, where this photo was taken.
Christian, 17, has been accepted as a freshman at The Citadel, a military academy in South Carolina, where he hopes to graduate as a Second Lieutenant in four years and then serve in the Army’s Special Forces.
Founder of the Support the Troops Club at Foothill, Christian wears the dog tags that belonged to his grandfather when he fought in World War II. Other relatives served in Korea and Vietnam.
“Our country is engaged in a war again, and it’s up to us here at home to support those troops as much as we can,” Christian said.
