Students got covered with colored powder and water on the Hearst Elementary School field earlier this month as part of the “Holi Blast” sponsored by the Amador Valley High School PTA. Holi, also called the Festival of Color, is an annual Hindu spring festival celebrated in India and Nepal for two days around late March or early April. On the first day, a bonfire is lit at night and on the second day people go around until afternoon throwing colored powder and water at each other. During Holi Blast, attendees not only doused each other with paint, but also enjoyed authentic Indian snacks and Indian music played by Foothill High School students. The event raised money for the Amador Library.
