The state of California recently released the base Academic Performance Index scores for the state’s schools. The API scores are based on a composite of several standardized tests including the California Standards Test, California Alternate Performance Assessment, the California High School Exit Examination (high schools only) and California Achievement Test. Schools are ranked on a numeric index with a low of 200 and a high of 1,000. A score of 800 or higher is considered “exemplary.” Schools scoring below 800 are required to show improvement each year until the 800 mark is reached. The above graph shows the scores of Pleasanton’s schools, all of which scored 800 or better, as well as the scores of schools in the Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon Valley, San Francisco, Berkeley, Piedmont and Oakland school districts.
