Country legend Tracy Lawrence opens this year’s Alameda County Fair on June 23 with shows at 6 and 8 p.m. Lawrence has posted more #1 Billboard country singles than greats like Glen Campbell, Keith Whitley, Ernest Tubb, Wynonna, or Barbara Mandrell. He was named Billboardís Top New Male Vocalist in 1992. Lawrence is said to draw his songs from family and day-to-day life.
On June 26, 2003 the summer Concert Series will host Grammy nominees Bowling For Soup, a band noted for its punk-influenced power pop. The group’s catchy tunes have catapulted several of their songs onto the pop charts, including ì1985,î ìAlmost,î ìOhio (Come Back To Texas),î and ìGirl All The Bad Guys Want.î
Perennial favorite Pat Boone is the top entertainment July 5. During the Elvis years, Boone was every parent’s clean cut boy next door. With over 45 million records sold and 38 Top 40 hits, he’s recognized by Billboard Magazine as the #10 rock recording artist in history, placing higher than either Madonna or Billy Joel. He is also an inductee to the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame.
On July 8, the popular Temptations Revue will remind Baby Boomers of the original Motown machine. The Temptations got their start in Detroit in the early sixties. Who could forget “The Way You Do the Things You Do” or “My Girlî?
