50-year Reunion Weekend
On behalf of the reunion committee, I am pleased to announce that the Livermore High School Classes of 1976 and 1977 will celebrate their 50-Year Reunion Weekend on Sept. 25-26, 2026. All alumni and their guests are invited to attend.
The weekend kicks off Friday evening, Sept. 25, at the Livermore High School Homecoming Night football game, where returning alumni can cheer alongside current students and families.
On Saturday morning, Sept. 26, attendees may choose between two pre-reunion activities: a “Blast from the Past” campus tour at Livermore High School or an Alumni Golf Tournament at Poppy Ridge Golf Course.
The official reunion dinner and dancing will take place Saturday evening from 6-10 p.m. at the Cresta Blanca Ballroom in Livermore. We encourage early registration to assist with planning. Secure early bird pricing now at $76 for Class of ’76 grads and $77 for Class of ’77 grads.
For full details, updates, and ticket purchases, please visit our website at http://lhs50threunion.netlify.app/. For any questions not addressed there, you may email us at LHSReunion7677@gmail.com.
We look forward to welcoming back our fellow Cowboys for this milestone celebration.

Let’s all chill out and grab a taco!
The NIMBYs are going to drive the Santa Rita taco stand featured in the Weekly’s June 26 issue out of business.
I’m guessing the most vocal opponents of this business have never eaten at a roadside food stand outside of our bucolic Pleasanton. In many countries food stands like the one in question are both ubiquitous and an integral part of the local community. My wife and I have eaten at lots of them without issue in places like Mexico, Thailand, the Caribbean and Austin, Texas.
And who thinks that every food stand at our County Fair would pass a rigorous health inspection without an infraction?
I am not minimizing the need for basic health regulations. But let’s find a sane compromise.
Look how the small but vocal NIMBY contingent wrecked downtown Pleasanton. Now they’re well on their way to wrecking this business too.

Fossil fuel industry’s control of our government
The world as we know it today was built on the back of burning fossil fuels. Unfortunately, this has come at a tremendous cost. Emissions from burning fossil fuels are rapidly warming our world at a rate that has never occurred in the history of our planet. Why do we continue to burn fossil fuels?
One primary reason is the tremendous control the fossil fuel industry has over our government. The industry spends approximately $250 million per year lobbying elected officials. The vast majority going to Republican officials and candidates. During the 2024 presidential campaign, oil interests gave over $75 million to Donald Trump-affiliated PACs.
This lobbying serves as a highly effective financial instrument, yielding unparalleled returns on investments by securing multi-billion-dollar taxpayer subsidies, rolling back environmental regulations, and stalling clean energy competition.
In addition, the federal government spends $20 billion to $35 billion annually on direct handouts, including special tax breaks and cheap drilling access on public lands.
We cannot expect meaningful climate action as long as our representatives are financially beholden to the industry driving this crisis. Voters must demand transparency and reject candidates who prioritize fossil fuel payouts over our planet’s future.
