Evacuations underway as fire in Sunol Wilderness up to 350 acres

Fire crews are battling a blaze growing at a moderate rate of speed in the Sunol Regional Wilderness area, with the last reports indicating 350 acres charred and zero containment as of Friday evening. 

Evacuations are underway in the public open space and park in Sunol as well as along Welch Creek Road in Sunol due to the Creek Fire, according to the Alameda County Fire Department. 

The wildfire ignited just before 4 p.m. Friday (July 26) in the area of Welch Creek and Calaveras roads in Sunol for unknown reasons, according to ACFD. Cal Fire reported the Creek Fire was measured at 350 acres as of Friday evening. 

ACFD stated that the East Bay Regional Park District Fire Department was the incident command lead, but noted Cal Fire was calling in more resources for structure protection. Aircraft support was also on the way on Friday evening.
