Two teenagers from Pleasanton were shot in Hayward on Thursday night, leaving one fighting for his life in the hospital, police said on Saturday.
The situation unfolded around 11:10 p.m. Thursday (June 27), with Hayward police receiving a report about a shooting near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway. As officers were on their way, emergency dispatch got a call from a 17-year-old boy who said he and his friend were shot and fled the area, according to police.
Officers located the two injured teens about a mile and a half away, near the 100 block of West Tennyson Road in Hayward. The 17-year-old boy from Pleasanton was taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds and later released, according to police.
The second victim, an 18-year-old Pleasanton man, sustained critical injuries and remained on life support in the hospital as of 3 p.m. Saturday, according to police. Neither victim’s name was released.
Police said no suspect was in custody, and they did not release any identification details about those responsible. They said the investigation into Thursday night’s shooting was ongoing and encouraged anyone with information to contact Detective Scinto at 510-293-7176.
Investigators did add that they found no initial connection between the shooting of the Pleasanton teens on Thursday and the killing of a Rodeo teen in Hayward two nights earlier.
“There is no indication that this shooting and the homicide that took place on June 26, 2024 are connected, however that is something being examined, and detectives hope to learn through the investigative process,” police said in their press release Saturday.
In the prior case, a 15-year-old Rodeo boy was found dead from gunshot wounds around 2 a.m. Wednesday (June 26) near the 24000 block of Second Street in Hayward. A 13-year-old Hayward boy arrived at an area hospital minutes later with gunshot injuries and remains there for treatment, police said.
The culprit or culprits for the Wednesday shooting have not been identified, police said. It marked Hayward’s fifth homicide of the year, according to police.
