The Pleasanton Unified School District Board of Trustees will be holding two special closed-session meetings this weekend in order to continue discussions regarding the search for the district’s new superintendent.

According to the agendas for the Saturday and Sunday meetings, the board is not taking any action, meaning no decisions will be made in terms of who will be PUSD’s next top administrator.

Board Vice President Kelly Mokashi said in a statement to the Weekly that the board is still working diligently with its consultants — executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) — to complete the search process and that the special board meetings are a “natural part of that process.”

She also noted that Board President Justin Brown will be absent from the two meetings and that she will be taking the lead during the sessions.

“We appreciate the community’s patience and will communicate updates as soon as we are able,” Mokashi said.

The two early morning meetings come on the heels of another closed session meeting Thursday where, prior to the regular board meeting, the trustees once again deliberated about the months-long superintendent search.

Back in May, the board met several times to conduct interviews and was poised to discuss an employment contract for a potential candidate earlier this month before the district unexpectedly canceled that meeting due to ongoing deliberations.

The board has hoped to have a permanent leader selected and in position for the start of the 2025-26 school year as Interim Superintendent Maurice Ghysels’ year-long temporary tenure is expected to end this month.

Both of the closed session meetings will be held at the district offices and will both begin at 8:30 a.m. Prior to the closed session discussion will be a portion of the meeting set aside for public comments.
