The suspect, 38-year-old Andres Sanchez, is facing a felony carjacking charge as well as additional sentencing charges due to the nature of the crime, according to the Alameda County Superior Court Criminal Case Portal.

A representative from the DA’s office told the Weekly, “The Alameda County District Attorney’s office does not comment on active cases.”

On April 27, Pleasanton Police officers responded to the area of 300 Neal St. after receiving reports of an attempted carjacking. The Weekly previously spoke with the victim, Keith Bailey, whose family experienced issues with getting in touch with 911 while the criminal was outside their home.

As the Bailey family waited for the cops to arrive, the would-be carjacker fled the scene.

But during the course of the investigation, Pleasanton police detectives were able to locate DNA evidence from the scene that later identified Sanchez as the prime suspect.

Sanchez has had a long criminal history as he is currently facing multiple charges across the East Bay from various police agencies.

According to a May 3 press release from the Hayward Police Department, Sanchez had been arrested on April 30, 2024 in connection to a homicide that took place in that city on April 26 — the day before the attempted carjacking in Pleasanton.

During their investigation, Hayward police identified Sanchez as a person of interest and alleged he had already had several outstanding felony warrants. Officers then located Sanchez, who led police on a chase before he barricaded himself inside a random person’s garage, according to the department.

Police were able to get him to peacefully surrender and Sanchez has since been held in custody at Santa Rita Jail on several charges including his outstanding warrants, felony evasion, home invasion robbery and murder, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Locator.

The inmate locator also shows that on Sept. 18, Sanchez was placed under arrest by Dublin police for felony charges including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and second-degree robbery.

Sanchez was then placed under arrest for the attempted carjacking while he was at the Santa Rita jail for his other crimes.

In regards to his crimes outside of Pleasanton, Sanchez will have two separate hearings — one pretrial and one set hearing after revocation of probation — on Jan. 7 and Jan. 10, respectively for his charges in Hayward. He will also have a hearing on Jan. 17 to dismiss his Dublin felony charges, according to the inmate locator.

As for his charges in Pleasanton, Sanchez will be arraigned for the carjacking on Jan. 7 at the East County Hall of Justice in Dublin.
