NAMI workshop
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Tri-Valley, a regional affiliate of the national nonprofit NAMI organization, is hosting a “Suicide Prevention Workshop for Family Caregivers” this Saturday.
According to the organization, which works with other agencies to improve the lives of those affected by mental illness, the event will offer a “free, hands-on educational forum for families who are concerned about their adult loved ones who may be at risk for suicide.”
The workshop, which is set to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be held both on Zoom and in person. The event will be hosted in collaboration with NAMI Alameda County and the Keep Hope Alive Collaborative. For more information, visit namitrivalley.org.
School is back
The Pleasanton Unified School District is getting set to welcome students back to campuses across the city next Thursday (Aug. 13).
‘The AI Revolution’ at Bankhead
Hosts Kevin Roose and Casey Newton of The New York Times podcast “Hard Fork” are scheduled next Friday at the Bankhead Theater for an onstage discussion of the impacts of artificial intelligence on everyday life.
During Quest Science Center’s “The AI Revolution”, Roose and Newton plan to differentiate AI hype from the truth. The discussion is also set to feature guest presenter Brian Giera, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory associate program director for data science, AI and manufacturing.
Giera plans to discuss how AI is transforming scientific research and accelerating discoveries that could impact realms such as energy, medicine, engineering and national security. The event is set to close with a Q&A period.

Transportation input
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission is seeking community input on its Draft 2027 Transportation Improvement Program and the accompanying Draft Transportation-Air Quality Conformity Analysis.
According to the MTC, these documents will help outline the Bay Area’s near-term funding priorities for transit, highways, bridges, and local road improvements, while ensuring the region’s long-range goals and federal air quality standards are met.
Residents can review these drafts online at mtc.ca.gov/TIP and submit comments until 5 p.m. next Wednesday (Aug. 12). Feedback can also be emailed to info@bayareametro.gov.
Additionally, the MTC will accept oral testimony during the Programming & Allocations Committee meeting next Wednesday at 9:45 a.m.
AI Summit in Dublin
An annual AI Summit is scheduled to return next Wednesday with a panel discussion on the applications, opportunities and challenges facing industries amid increasingly autonomous artificial intelligence systems.
Dubbed AI and the Autonomous Economy: What’s Real, What’s Next, the event is set to feature six panelists including Neuron ERP Solutions founder and CEO Mayank Thakur, Miro chief of staff to growth Chun Jiang and Humaniti Inc. founder and CEO Bhaskaran Devaraj.
“This summit is designed to help leaders understand what is real today, where the technology is heading, and how to prepare for the opportunities ahead,” Yolanda Fintschenko, executive director of i-GATE Innovation Hub and Startup Tri-Valley, said in a statement.
Organizing the event are Startup Tri-Valley, i-GATE Innovation Hub and the city of Dublin.
The free event is scheduled to take place from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 12) at Patelco Credit Union Corporate Headquarters in Dublin. Registration is open on the Eventbrite website here.
