State of the City coming up
Pleasanton Mayor Jack Balch is set to deliver his first State of the City address at a luncheon event later this month organized by the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce.
The speech given annually by the sitting mayor typically recaps key projects, initiatives, accomplishments and challenges for the city of Pleasanton for the prior year as well as the year ahead.
The State of the City event is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with networking and the program at 11:45 a.m. on March 25 at the Palm Event Center in the Vineyard in Pleasanton. For tickets and more information, go to business.pleasanton.org.
Military equipment at Pleasanton PD
The Pleasanton Police Department is holding its state-mandated public meeting about its use of military equipment from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday (March 11) in the Remillard Room of the city’s Operations Services Center at 3333 Busch Road.
“We’re hosting a community meeting for the general public to discuss and ask questions regarding the City’s annual military equipment use report (per AB 481) and the police department’s funding, acquisition or use of military equipment,” city officials said.
‘Spring forward’ this weekend
Daylight Saving Time is beginning for the year this weekend. Remember to set your clocks forward one hour at 2 a.m. this Sunday (March 9).
Reusable foodware
Pleasanton city officials are hosting two workshops in the coming month with information for local businesses interested in transitioning to reusable foodware to help reduce waste, litter and costs.
Topic areas will include “benefits of switching to reusable foodware, cost savings by reducing disposable spending, minimizing waste and litter in the community, and reducing waste collection and disposal costs”.
An in-person workshop is set for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday (March 11) in the Pleasanton Public Library. A virtual session is on the calendar for April 2 at 10 a.m. The city also encourages local businesses to provide input in its “Reusable Foodware Survey” online now. Celtic harp concert at Trinity Lutheran
Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasanton is presenting its next concert next Friday (March 14) at 7 p.m. featuring award-winning Celtic harp player Patrick Ball.
Part of the Trinity Concert Series, Ball’s “Celtic Harp & Story” performance highlights storytelling through music on the classical instrument leading into St. Patrick’s Day weekend, according to Dwight Stone, minister of worship and music at the church. More information at tlcpleasanton.org.
‘Friday Night Live at Sunflower Hill’
Tri-Valley nonprofit Sunflower Hill, which serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), is launching a new “Friday Night Live at Sunflower Hill” program this month in addition to its series of new classes that began last month.
Held at Sunflower Hill at Irby Ranch in Pleasanton, the “Friday Night Live” series begins this Friday (March 7) from 5:30-8 p.m. and continues on April 11 and May 16 – “open to Regional Center clients and any adult with I/DD in the community interested in social and vocational programming” at $25 per session, according to the nonprofit. “Friday Night Live Programs will center around a different theme each month, with outside entertainers, dinner and fun activities.”

Pleasanton Little League opening day
The opening day ceremony for Pleasanton Little League’s spring season is set for this Saturday (March 8) at Ken Mercer Sports Park.
Teams will arrive at 7:30 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. on Field LL6 at the park on Parkside Drive off Hopyard Road. Special guests will include Mayor Balch, the Amador Valley High School baseball coach, a local color guard and the league’s Board of Directors, according to PLL.
