Keeping the public safe, continuing to support the business community and maintaining a strong, fiscally solvent city budget are just some of the top priorities incumbent Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu said she wants to focus on if she is elected to a second term.
“Dublin is my home, and I am honored to serve this community,” Hu said in a press release this summer when she first announced her reelection bid.
Hu, a former Dublin City Council member who won the mayor race in 2024, will be running against two other candidates during the upcoming November general election: Councilmember Michael McCorriston, who served as mayor for several months in 2024 by appointment, and newcomer Kiran Mohammad.
According to her website, Hu is a longtime Dublin resident, parent, entrepreneur and community volunteer. Both of her kids also attended Dublin schools through high school.
Her professional background includes work as an “assistant professor, university researcher, building engineer, environmental protection professional, business owner, financial consultant, and nonprofit leader”, according to her press release.
During her kids’ educational careers, Hu said she spent time serving as a parent faculty club board member and as a volunteer where she supported “students, families, seniors, and community organizations”.
Through her community service, she said she saw just how much residents could accomplish when they work together and how local leaders helped turn “community needs into action”.
So, in 2020, she ran successfully for a seat on the Dublin City Council. Four years later, she was elected as mayor after winning the 2024 election.
Since being elected as mayor, Hu touted her tenure as leading a period of prosperity in Dublin.
“Over the last two years, Dublin has continued to rise,” she continued. “We opened three new parks, welcomed over 100 new businesses, strengthened public safety, expanded community programs, and maintained a strong budget surplus while many cities face fiscal pressure.”
It was also under her leadership that the city was recognized as the No. 1 Best Place to Live in California for 2026-2027 by a recent U.S. News & World Report.
“That recognition belongs to the people of Dublin,” Hu said. “It reflects our residents, businesses, schools, City staff, public safety partners, and community organizations. My job is to keep that momentum moving forward.”
But her work is not done. If elected for a second term, Hu said she wants to prioritize keeping Dublin “safe, strong, and sustainable,” by focusing on “public safety, responsible fiscal management, parks and infrastructure, school partnerships, local businesses, and quality of life”.
“My guiding question is simple,” Hu said in her press release: “Will this make life better for the people who call Dublin home?”
On the topic of public safety, she states in her website that she wants to continue supporting first responders while, at the same time, using “modern technology, and support proactive policing to prevent crime and respond quickly to emergencies”.
On sustainable growth, Hu said, “I will continue advancing transportation and roadway improvements, including the reconstruction of Village Parkway, improvements along Tassajara Road, annual street resurfacing, and safer connections for pedestrians and bicyclists.”
And in regard to one of the more notable topics, considering how much other Tri-Valley cities are struggling with this, Hu said she wants to protect Dublin’s strong finances.
“With my professional background in finance, engineering, and project management, I carefully examine how public funds are spent,” Hu stated in her website. “I will continue maintaining healthy reserves, planning for long-term costs, investing in essential services, and ensuring that our financial decisions remain transparent and responsible.”
