Another wave of layoffs is hitting the Tri-Valley as companies continue to announce major changes in their workforces and operations, with alcohol distributor Republic National Distribution Company set to exit Pleasanton – and California at large – in the coming months.
The company is laying off all 226 employees at its Pleasanton location at 5100 Franklin Drive, which is set to be permanently closed effective Sept. 2, according to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) data from the state’s Employment Development Department.
Representatives for Republic National, which also does business as Young’s Market Company LLC, did not respond to a request for comment as of Tuesday evening. WARN notices were provided to the state July 1.
Along with Pleasanton, the company’s other major California office in Tustin – and a number of its express locations – are also closing, with additional closures in Hayward and Morgan Hill bringing the total number of Bay Area layoffs to 486. Throughout the state, the closures mean the loss of more than 1,500 jobs.
