An inconspicuous cocktail bar downtown Livermore that had previously been exclusive permanently opened its doors to the public for the first time this week.

As an expansion to Livermore’s Sons of Liberty Alehouse, Honeycomb Cocktail Lounge serves craft beverages in what officials describe as a “moody, luxe” atmosphere suited for after-work happy hours, date nights, birthday parties and corporate events.

“SOLA has always been about more than great food and drink — it’s about creating a space where people feel connected,” Sons of Liberty and Honeycomb co-founder Tom Lawrie said in a statement. “With Honeycomb, we’re building on that spirit.

Previously available for private events only, co-founders Tom and Teresa Lawrie have held the lounge in the back of their minds for years.

“We’ve realized its true potential lies in bringing the broader community together,” general manager Zak Dyer said.

“It’s incredibly meaningful to see it come to life,” Tom Lawrie added. “Whether you’re celebrating or just unwinding, we want you to feel at home here.”

Fit with a bottle wall of local and spirits considered rare, the resulting beverages at Honeycomb can be described as smoky, spicy or juicy, according to a statement from the establishment.

As for atmosphere, the lounge features velvet booths, gold accents and vintage portraits.

“Every detail was chosen to evoke that sense of discovery and delight, from the lighting to the layout to the way the space reveals itself as you settle in,” Teresa Lawrie said.

“I see Honeycomb as something Livermore hasn’t quite seen before — unexpected, yes, but also magnetic,” she added.

Honeycomb opened on Sunday, joining the couple’s two other establishments in the East Bay including Sons of Liberty locations in San Leandro and Livermore.
