“Fostering creativity, collaboration and community” is the common thread among the 2025 calendar for the Amador Valley Quilters, which recently announced its series of programs, workshops and events for the year.
Kicking off the season will be “Your Mind Matters”, a webinar and trunk show this Saturday (March 8) featuring quilt artist and former firefighter Brandy Maslowski, known for her “Quilter on Fire” podcast.
“This year’s programs are covering a wide array of topics; patchwork, art quilting and compelling artistic journeys. There’s sure to be something for everyone,” AVQ publicity chair Colette L’Heureux told the Weekly. “We have a few Zoom meetings scheduled so that we can have speakers from other parts of the country. Our members who have moved away also get a chance to participate at our Zoom meetings.”
“AVQ has been a wonderful organization for quilters to connect with other quilters, ask for advice and make friends,” L’Heureux said. “One of our core values is giving back to the community. Our members have been very generous with their time and talents, making over 800 quilts a year for various Alameda County charities, many of those through our ‘friendship groups’.”
“Everything but the Cotton” by Julia McLeod – which spotlights the quilting possibilities of reclaimed materials such as silk neckties, kimonos and saris – follows on April 12.
The next month brings AVQ’s annual fabric sale fundraiser, offering quilting cottons, batting, yarn, notions and more on the afternoon of May 10 at Pleasanton Middle School.
Filling out the program schedule are “From Then to Now” by Kathy Doughty on June 14, a trunk show of Fourth of July and Halloween quilts by Rhondi Reeves on July 12, “Let’s Get Rolling on Your Quilting Goals” by Mel Beach on Aug. 9, “Color — A Step-by-Step Tutorial” by Christine Barnes on Sept. 13, “Edgy” by Linda Wagner on Oct. 11 and “A Deep Dive into Batiks” by Tammy Silvers on Nov. 8.
