The show on Saturday evening will serve to honor Sergei Rachmaninoff’s 150th birthday and the 100th anniversary of “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin, according to DVFA officials.

“Yakushev, with many awards and honors to his credit, continues to astound and mesmerize audiences at major venues on three continents,” DVFA reps said. “In 2023-24, dozens of engagements bring Ilya from New York City to the West Coast for recitals, concertos and — with members of the renowned St. Lawrence String Quartet — chamber music.”

A prizewinning pianist since the age of 12 in his native St. Petersburg, Yakushev has gone on to earn worldwide acclaim while performing on some of the best-known stages around the globe including Carnegie Hall, according to DVFA.

His concert program will include Mozart’s “Fantasia in D minor”, three preludes by Rachmaninoff, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”. He also has put together a slideshow to accompany his Mussorgsky number featuring the artwork depicted in the music, DVFA reps said.

The concert is set for Saturday (April 27) at 7:30 p.m. at the Bankhead in downtown Livermore. For tickets and more information, go to livermorearts.org.
