Pleasanton high school students will be bringing jukebox classics to life this Friday at the Firehouse Arts Center during the “Put Another Dime In” musical.

The show will be performed by the Firehouse’s High School Music Collaborative’s cabaret program, which was developed during the pandemic to keep high school students involved in theater without needing to rehearse together on a large scale.

“Jukebox musicals are where musical theaters meet your favorite musical genres – rock, soul, jazz, pop – and bring them to life in a new way you’ve never seen before,” Zavattero said. “Songs you know and love are given new meaning and emotion when attached to characters and a story.”

According to the Firehouse website, the collaborative program brings together young musicians and performers to refine their respective crafts in the arts.

Jeff Zavattero, acting recreation supervisor at the Firehouse Arts Center, told the Weekly that the show will feature 16 cast members and that it will be the first time the collaborative performs any of the songs they prepared for Friday’s show live.

“They say in musical theater, when you feel an emotion, and saying it isn’t enough, you sing. And when singing isn’t enough, you dance,” Zavattero said. “‘Put Another Dime In’ combines all three in a wonderful spectacle of talented high school students.”

The show will be on Friday (April 12) at the Firehouse from 7:30-9:30 p.m. For ticket information visit the Firehouse website at www.firehousearts.org.
