9/11 remembrance
A 9/11 Memorial Ceremony is scheduled in Pleasanton next week to honor first responders and people who died or were affected by the terrorist attacks a quarter-century ago.
“As we mark 25 years, I hope our community will come together in remembrance and carry forward the spirit of service, strength and unity that brought us together,” Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert said in a statement.
The program will include Alameda County Fire Department Honor Guard’s presentation of the colors, live musical performances, a ceremonial “Call of the Bell”, a military rifle salute and the playing of “Taps” as well as remarks from Haubert and Alameda County Fire Chief Willie McDonald.
Open to the public, the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday (Sept. 11) at the Alameda County Fairgrounds Amphitheater. To RSVP, visit tinyurl.com/26neverforget911.
Concannon at West Point
Concannon Vineyard recently teamed up with Army West Point Athletics as the sports program’s first preferred wine partner, according to Lemmons Family Vineyards officials.
The 224-year old program features intramural teams, competitive clubs and NCAA teams.
“For our family, this partnership makes perfect sense,” Tom Lemmons, former U.S. Army aviator and owner of Concannon Vineyard, said in a statement. “You have one of the oldest and most prestigious athletic programs, Army West Point, partnering with one of the oldest and most award-winning wineries in American history, Concannon.”
High schools ranked
Both of Pleasanton Unified School District’s comprehensive high schools have been recognized as some of the best schools in California, according to the U.S. News and World Report’s 2026-27 Best High Schools list.
Amador Valley High School, according to the rankings, was listed as the 79th best high school in California with a 96% graduation rate. It was also ranked as 546th best high school nationally.
Foothill High School was ranked 84th best in the state and 577th nationally with a 95% graduation rate.
“The rankings highlight schools whose students excel on state assessments, succeed in college-level coursework, and graduate at high rates,” the district recently stated in its E-Connect newsletter. “This is an incredible honor and a proud moment for our students, staff, and families.”
