A Livermore motorcyclist died as a result of a collision with a vehicle early Monday morning at the intersection of Paseo Laguna Seco and Portola Avenue, according to the Livermore Police Department.
LPD responded to the incident at approximately 3:30 a.m., LPD officials wrote Monday on social media. Paramedics arrived within minutes, but the 47-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a 61-year-old Livermore resident was making a left turn onto Portola Avenue from southbound Paseo Laguna Seco while the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Portola Avenue, police said. The two vehicles then collided in the intersection, according to police.
The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
“The cause of the crash is still under investigation,” LPD officials said.
While officers investigated the scene of the incident, both directions of Portola Avenue and Paseo Laguna Seco were temporarily closed and traffic was rerouted through nearby neighborhoods, police said.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau is set to release the motorcyclist’s identity following notification of the victims’ next-of-kin, police said.
LPD urges anyone with information about the incident to contact the traffic unit at 925-371-4850.
