Livermore police said they have arrested a local man on suspicion of arson in connection with multiple small grassfires on either side of Interstate 580 in the eastern part of the city.

Livermore Police Department officers joined in the response to several vegetation fires in recent weeks along the Las Positas Road corridor and near the Super 8 by Wyndham Livermore hotel on Lassen Road, according to a post on the LPD Facebook page June 25.

During one of the fires, officers made contact with a 34-year-old Livermore man in the area. Following additional investigation, police allege they connected the man to two other fires and are pursuing three counts of arson with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.

“These incidents posed a significant risk to public safety, especially during fire season,” police said in the social media post. “As always, we encourage the community to report any suspicious activity. Early reporting can help prevent dangerous situations.”
