For the second year in a row, Amador swept the women’s and men’s Ryan Gordon Alumni Soccer games. The Amador women won 5-1 and the Amador men won on penalty kicks (4-3) after regulation ended tied 2-2.
Scoring for the Lady Dons were Beverly Mayer (’04, three goals), Kaitlyn McDonald (’00) and Julie Solano (’93). Valerie Mayer (’02), Ashley Kenitzer and McDonald added the assists. Kim Patrick (’99) scored the lone goal for Foothill. Amador goalie Erin Murray (’04) had eight saves.
Brian Cox (’00) and Tim Foley (’00) scored for the Amador Men while Kyle Crain (’06) had two goals for Foothill. Nick Winslow assisted on the Cox goal. Boomer Cruz (’06) assisted on one of the Crain goals. Rob Flores (’96) was outstanding in goal for the winners. Brad Googins (’87) was also superb in goal for Foothill.
BUSC and Rage provided the halftime entertainment. BUSC U12 boys played the Rage U13 girls during the half of the women’s game and BUSC U11 boys played the Rage U12 girls during the half of them men’s game. The scores were 0-0 and 1-0 respectively.
Eighty players form the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s played in this year’s games, which alternate between the fields at Amador and Foothill High schools. (This year the games were at Amador.)
This was a community effort as several people helped make the games possible. Volunteers and coaches from each school helped organize the event by staffing the snack bar, announcing the game and handling tickets. Pleasanton Referees Association officiate the games. The youth players even acted as ball girls and boys.
This year, $4,500 was raised towards soccer programs at each school. Through four years, more than $25,000 has been raised. All-Star Sports provided the jerseys and the Hop Yard Alehouse & Grill donated funds from earnings made at the postgame gathering.
