Thirteen women and men from around the Bay Area were arrested in Pleasanton Tuesday, July 25, on charges of prostitution or facilitating acts of prostitution after The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office of Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement (SAFE) and the Pleasanton Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit conducted a joint investigation on prostitution through the Internet.
Undercover officers reviewed online advertisements for erotic services on Web sites Craig’s List, Red Book and Eros, said Captain Eskridge of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Contract Services Unit and overseer of the SAFE Task Force. Officers then contacted several persons who placed announcements and gave locations where they would meet. Once the suspect made a solicitation for a sexual act, the suspect was arrested.
Stephanie Douglas, 19, of Sacramento; Sara Morales, 20, of Bay Point; Brenda Lopez, 19, of San Lorenzo; Kelly Barger, 32, of Fremont; Kyoko Freeman, 25, of Oakland; Dominique Smith, 19, of El Cerrito; Jennifer Bayliss, 24, of Hayward; Jasmine Anderson-Alexander, 21, of Antioch; and Susan Wood, 28, of Reno, Nev., were arrested for prostitution and booked at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
Others were also arrested for suspicion of facilitating acts of prostitution and booked at Santa Rita Jail, including Ralph Crittle, 63, of Antioch; Michael Lauderdale, 48, of Antioch; Robert Wood, 26, of Reno; and Bobby Spraggins, 25, of Pittsburg. Spraggins was additionally charged with possession of a loaded firearm and possession of stolen property. The firearm in Spraggins’ possession had been reported stolen out of Hercules, Calif.
Internet prostitution is becoming extremely popular and is slowly replacing the more conventional methods of prostitution, police said. Significant numbers of prostitutes use the Internet to facilitate their illegal activity by increasing their exposure and concealing the activity from law enforcement. SAFE and the Pleasanton Police Department will continue to investigate additional information received related to this ongoing investigation.
