The Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA) is holding its first Independent Bookstore Tour from 9 a.m.-5p.m., Saturday May 13, celebrating the role booksellers play in their communities. Pleasanton’s own Towne Center Books is one of the six bookstores on the tour. The tour meets at the Walnut Creek BART station and participants will then spend the day stopping at stores in Walnut Creek, Orinda, Danville and Pleasanton where they will meet with the owners and hear special author presentations. The tour costs $40 per person. Call (415) 561-7686 or e-mail office@nciba.com for more information.
Traveling Tales
Andy Jorgensen, manager of Pleasanton Civic Arts, will tell stories of the valley, often known as “Corridor County,” during his “Traveling Tales” lecture from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday May 18. The event is part of the Ed Kinney Lecture Series presented by the Museum On Main and will be held at the Lynnewood United Methodist Church, 4444 Black Ave. Jorgensen will relay stories of the geological forming of the paths and trails that brought people to this area 5,000 years ago and of the lives of a few individuals who made the place what it is today. Woven into the story of the corridor will be the stories of Indians, Spaniards, ranchers and railroad men. The event is $5 for museum members and $10 for non-members. Memberships will be available for purchase at the door.
