Pleasanton’s Steve Spencer, 18, places first on pommel horse at the Northern California Boys Gymnastic State Meet March 18-19 in Petaluma. He also placed first on high bar. Spencer is a level 10 gymnast who is a national champion on pommel horse and a national team member. He trains at Pleasanton’s West Coast Olympic Gymnastics Academy with other Pleasanton-area youth. Coach Vince Miller reports that the academy won 10 gold medals at the Northern California Boys Gymnastics State Meet, placed eight gymnasts on the Nor-Cal All Star Team, won the level 9 State Team Title, and the academy’s level 5 team finished second at the State Championships.
