Tri-Valley nonprofit Hope Hospice & Health Services is getting ready for its 2025 Hike for Hope fundraising event next month at Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore.
The scenic hike on the morning of May 17 raises money to support Hope Hospice’s efforts to bring care to people in the region facing serious illness and the end of life, as well as no-cost grief support services and dementia education programs, according to the nonprofit.
“The Tri-Valley community has embraced this cherished annual event,” Jennifer Hansen, Hope’s senior vice president, told the Weekly.
“We love seeing familiar faces return year after year. While this event originally began as a memorial for those who had a loved one in our care, it has grown into something much greater — bringing together hundreds of community members who share in our mission,” Hansen said. “The funds we raise through registration fees and generous donations play a vital role in helping us provide exceptional care and support to our patients and their families.”
The Hike for Hope includes a “fairly flat 2.6-mile out-and-back route” along the regional park’s East Shore Trail, according to organizers. Participants can add a 2-mile loop with a moderate climb to a scenic overlook, and both options are designed for people to go at their own comfort level and pace.
Registration for this year’s event opened last month. So far, 30 teams and 311 individual participants have signed up, committing 134 donations for more than $24,000 overall as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the Hike for Hope webpage.
Hikers are encouraged to arrive by 8 a.m. to the Fiesta Grande Picnic Area in the Del Valle Regional Park on May 17. The event will start at 8:30 a.m. with announcements and a blessing before hikers set out on the trail.
