A 3.7-magnitude quake struck at 1:59 p.m. about 2 kilometers southeast of Hayward along the Hayward Fault.

Previously, two small earthquakes struck in the same area close together. The first 3.4-magnitude quake struck at 11:52 a.m. with a second quake registering 3.2 in the same spot two minutes later, the USGS said.

A smaller quake also occurred there earlier Thursday morning, a 2.7-magnitude quake reported at 5:03 a.m.

At least one social media user on Thursday said the jolts could be felt in Fremont.

The Hayward Fault runs roughly 74 miles from San Jose up through the East Bay.
