A motorcyclist died over the weekend after crashing into a protective guard rail on Niles Canyon Road off Highway 84 near Fremont while allegedly being drunk, police said.

Around 9:25 p.m. Sunday, Fremont officers were alerted to a report of a motorcyclist lying down on the road in the eastbound direction of Niles Canyon Road, west of Palomares Road. The officers found that a male motorcyclist had struck a guard rail protector and he was ejected into the brush bordering the Niles Canyon Creek.

The motorist was pronounced dead shortly after emergency personnel arrived at the scene. The man was a 65-year-old resident of Fremont.

According to the Fremont Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit, alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash.

This is Fremont’s second fatal traffic collision in 2024, police said.
