A pair of 18-year-olds from the East Bay were injured in a shooting late Saturday night in Pleasanton, according to city police.
The victims’ injuries were not considered to be life-threatening, and investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack and not a random act of violence, according to Lt. Brandon Stocking.
The investigation unfolded just after 11 p.m. Saturday when police received calls from residents reporting the sounds of several gunshots in the area of Stoneridge Drive and Gibraltar Drive, according to Stocking.
As officers searched that area, the California Highway Patrol was contacted by two people who were pulled over on eastbound Interstate 580 at Hacienda Drive. They reported having been shot and in need of medical attention, Stocking said.
Officers responded and made contact with three people in the victim vehicle. Two of the occupants sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, and several bullets had struck their vehicle, according to Stocking.
The victims told police they had exited the freeway and were driving westbound on Stoneridge Drive when at least one occupant of another vehicle started shooting at them, according to Stocking.
The victims’ names are not being released; Stocking identified them only as an 18-year-old man from Oakland and an 18-year-old woman from Richmond.
