The Pleasanton Rage U13 advanced soccer team traveled to Las Vegas and participated in the Vegas Cup Tournament over the three-day holiday weekend last week.
Games were played at the Bettye Wilson Soccer complex.
The Rage opened play on a very cold Saturday evening with temperatures in the mid 30s. First up was host team FC Las Vegas. Rage held the advantage for most of the game and scored on a cross into the 6-yard box that Krista Williams drilled into the back of the net.
Rage went on to win 1-0.
Next up on Sunday afternoon was a highly touted team from Mission Viejo, the MVSC Elite. Both teams played a physical game, but were unable to score and battled to a scoreless tie.
Sunday night, the Rage met up with LV Premiere. Both teams had multiple scoring opportunities, with the Premieres seizing a field opportunity to score the only–and winning–run, with the final score 1-0.
Overall for the tournament, Rage was led by Krista Williams, Jenel Firneno and Kayla Hanscomb on offense. Outstanding midfield play came from Alaina Urban, Chidi Onwuegbu, Karly Duval and Claire Berkley. The rock solid back line of Merdith Jaeger, Nicole Bardakos, Nicole Powers and Kayla Bouchard turned away mostly scoring threats and Madison Beatty in the net had several bold saves in all three games.
