The Phantom Rose under-10 ‘C’ team took the championship in the Nor-Cal Regional qualifier tournament in Sunnyvale, qualifying the team for the State Championships in San Diego later this summer. In a thrilling championship game, the Phantom Rose defeated the King City Hurricanes 7-6 in a game that featured a solo home run by Nicole Heller. The Phantom Rose led until the top of the seventh when the Hurricanes rallied for four runs to take their first lead of the game. Showing the heart of a champion, the Phantom came back in the bottom of the seventh. Keli Wheatley led off the bottom of the seventh by hitting an infield single. She promptly stole second and third bases on two consecutive pitches. Andie Becker then singled in Wheatley with the tying run. A single by Brooke Campbell moved Becker to third with one out. Kelli Finn followed with a solid single to center field, scoring Becker with the winning run. Pitcher Dharini Clare recorded 14 strikeouts in the complete game win.

The Phantom Rose went 4-0 for the weekend with a 12-2 win over the Mt. View Nova and a 12-1 win over the Belmont Blaze. Finn recorded a home run against the Blaze with Becker striking out 12 in the four-inning game. The game against the Nova was highlighted by a lead-off homer from Tori Larsen. In the semi-final game, the Phantom Rose defeated the Cabrillo Crushers 4-2. The semi-final featured an RBI triple by Wheatley and 12 strikeouts by pitcher Clare. The championship qualifies Phantom Rose to go to the State Championship tournament in San Diego.

The Pleasanton Phantom 16’s finished the Hayward Metro Qualifier Tournament with a 3-1 record to take second place in the tournament. In the double elimination tournament format, the Phantom won their first game against the Santa Clara Pal with a come-from-behind win in extra innings, ending with a score of 6-5. Trailing 4-0 through four innings, Brittania Bloom made the Pal pay for a lead-off walk to Allie Price to start the fifth inning. Bloom belted a 3-2 pitch for a home run to bring the Phantom within two runs. Kelly McKeehan added a third run when Alia Ismail doubled. The Phantom defense held the Pal for the next two innings and again capitalized off a walk to Ismail. Amanda Sisneros tied the game, knocking in the fourth run for the Phantom 16’s, sending the game to extra innings. Using international tiebreaker rules which have the offensive team start each at-bat with a runner at second base, the Pal scored a run in the eighth inning. The Phantom started their half of the eighth with Alex Herman at second base. Price then reached base on an error and Bloom made the Pal pay again with a game-winning double to score both runners. Georgia Bloom and Lindsey Bly combined to pitch the Phantom to the win.

Game two of the tournament against the King City Hurricanes was a less stressful 7-0 win with Bloom and Bly throwing a no-hitter in the 7-0 win. The two pitchers combined to strikeout 15 Hurricanes.

Game three resulted in a hard-fought 2-1 loss to the San Carlos Blaze. The Phantom held a slim 1-0 lead through five innings behind the pitching of Bly before succumbing in the late innings. Claire Robertson knocked in Brit Bloom to bring in the lone run for the Phantom.

In their final game the Phantom again met the King City Hurricanes. The Hurricanes were not going to go down as easy this time, but the Phantom still came away with a 7-2 win. Georgia Bloom pitched a complete game and finished with six strikeouts for the win. Brit Bloom again led the Phantom with three singles and two runs. Kelly McKeehan went two for four with two RBI’s. Carli Kachel also went two for four with an RBI and provided great defense behind the plate. Robertson saved a late inning rally by the Hurricanes with two aggressive defensive plays in right field.
