Local artisan Gary Winter has people talking, once again, about his latest creation–a 6 1/2 foot, 300 pound, $100 bill made out of 22,000 nails. Winter started making the piece in 1997, but stopped working when he was distracted by other projects, namely his production of miniature replicas of famous buildings in Pleasanton. Six months ago he was inspired to start work on the $100 bill again and once he finished it he offered to put it on display at Valley Community Bank. “I wanted to show it off and thought it would be cool at a bank,” Winter said. Winter, who banks with Valley Community Bank, asked them if he could “deposit his $100 bill” and that’s how plans for the installation got started. The bill will be at the bank for at least a month and Winter has received offers from other corporations interested in buying the piece to put on display in their lobbies.
