Tony Dennis has been named the Pleasanton Unified School District’s 2015-16 Teacher of the Year.
Dennis has been with the district for 13 years, and is currently the lead teacher of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) at Amador Valley High School, a program that aims to engage students in thought-provoking, critical thinking STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curricular activities while developing students into future members of the engineering community.
According to district officials, Dennis works countless hours to maintain the success and growth of PLTW.
In addition to being lead teacher for PLTW, Dennis has taught algebra to Advanced Placement statistics and engineering at Amador Valley.
Dennis’ nomination form said: “Tony is without a doubt one of the most selfless teachers that Pleasanton has had the pleasure to employ. His innovation, devotion, and dedication to the students and faculty of Amador Valley High School are greater than can be expressed by words.”
The district is set to host a “Salute to Service” ceremony for Dennis at Amador Valley on May 7, starting at 3:15 p.m.
“Tony Dennis is the driving force behind Project Lead the Way and has an exponential impact on students throughout PUSD,” said Pleasanton schools superintendent Parvin Ahmadi. “Mr. Dennis has been instrumental in drawing more girls to engineering. He’s got an amazing passion for engaging students and encouraging them to explore and solve problems on their own. When you walk into his classroom you can tell his students are happy to be there and eager to learn.”
His name will be submitted to the Alameda County Office of Education for the county’s Teacher of the Year program.
Tony Dennis was a great teacher for a long time. It really is a wonderful acknowledgement of his dedication that he has gotten this award. He is living proof that you can change your job for a vocation that has affected the lives of countless students. Congrats Tony!! Well deserved.

Well deserved Mr Dennis! Well deserved. I know you don’t go looking for this sort of attention but you certainly have earned it. Proud to have you as a friend, even more proud you choose to teach our children in Pleasanton.
