Last week I wrote about how the Foothill High volleyball team seemed to be hitting its stride at the right time.
This time, the Falcons kicked it into yet another gear, sweeping De La Salle and Amador Valley.
The win was huge in that the Spartans were previously unbeaten in East Bay Athletic League play. The Falcons ended that with a 25-16, 25-23, 25-13 win.
Highlights came from Josh Salonga (24 assists, 8 service points, 3 kills), Jeremy Sun (10 kills, 7 digs) and Trey Elson (8 kills, 1 block).
The run continued with a 25-9, 25-21, 25-17 win over rival Amador.
Great games were turned in by Sun (14 kills at a .410 clip, 10 digs), Salonga (31 assists, 7 kills), Thomas Paduraru (6 kills, 2 blocks) and Rushil Vadada (15 service points, 9 digs, 5 kills).
Foothill ended the week by going 2-2 in the top division of the Stockton tournament, beating Vanden and Clovis West, but losing to Valley Christian (San Jose) and Dublin.
Back to league, there’s no rest as Foothill faces unbeaten San Ramon Valley and Dublin.
Amador JV tennis
The Dons had another great week, beating Dougherty Valley and Foothill by the same 6-3 margins.
In the win over Dougherty Valley singles wins came from Arnav Mehta, Suvir Rao, Sameer Datta and Thomas Chen. The doubles teams of Henry Bull-Avij Asarwala and Akshaj Shandilya-Srikar Chidipotu took their matches.
In the win over Foothill, the singles wins were from Bull, Samarth Mahapatra and Rao.
The Dons swept the doubles with wins from the teams of Mehta-Asarawala, Udi Singhall-Chidipotu and Aryan Chawla-Erik Van Slyke.
Results needed
If you are reading this column and wondering where the results for your child’s team are, then we could use your help each week.
So far, we are getting results from Foothill boys’ volleyball and Amador Valley junior varsity tennis
The results we get each week are the result of a coach or a volunteer for a specific team turning in the results.
It is a little sad that in a day and age where so many parents are quick to complain so very few are willing to take 15 minutes a week to help. But these will be the people that complain when their son or daughter doesn’t appear in the paper.
It takes no more than 15-20 minutes a week to get the results into us by our noon deadline each Sunday. Of course, you can send in the results before Sunday, but that is the deadline.
It can be as simple as letting us know the sport, who you played, the result and the highlights for the game or match. This works great for baseball, softball and volleyball.
For baseball or softball just give the final score and any highlights like multiple hits or home runs, runs scored, RBIs, pitching highlights like hits allowed, strikeouts or any other information.
For sports like tennis and badminton, just take a picture of the score sheet and send it to me. Also include a roster of the team so I can make sure to get the names right.
Sports with many athletes, like swimming and track-and-field, give me the final score of the meet, as well as highlights like multiple event winners, record or personal best marks, and any other highlights like winning performance late in the meet that gave the team the victory.
We are always looking for pictures to run with a story as well. Our requirements are that a photo can’t be taken by another news agency, we need the identification of your athletes, as well as who took the picture.
If you have any questions regarding turning in results for your athlete’s team, please contact me at acesmag@aol.com. Let’s get the kids the coverage they deserve.
Editor’s note: Dennis Miller is a contributing sports writer for Embarcadero Media Foundation’s East Bay Division. To contact him about his Pleasanton Preps column, email acesmag@aol.com.
