Five select members of the Pleasanton Seahawks, (left-right) Neda Nguyen, Lisa Narum, Brandon Fischer, Jen Narum and Caitlin Lavagnino, traveled to Texas earlier in March to compete in the University of Texas American Short Course Championships. With their entry times, they earned the honor of competing in events alongside such internationally ranked swimmers as Michael Phelps, Ian Crocker, Kaitlin Sandeno, and Tara Kirk. Despite the expected jitters of competing with such elite company, several best times and even some Seahawks’ records were broken. Jen Narum, 17, improved her best time by setting a new team record and coming in fifth in the 500 Free with a time of 4:48.66.Ý She also clocked in at 1:52.33 to place 35th in the 200 Free. Caitlin Lavagnino, 17, had some great swims with best times in the 100 Back, 200 Back, and leading off the 400 Medley Relay with another best time in the 100 Back (1:00.04). Neda Nguyen, 15, logged her best times in the 100 Breast and 200 Breast where she placed 38th with a time of 2:28.16. Lisa Narum, 16, also swam best times in the 200 IM where she placed 27th with a time of 2:06.95, and 100 Breast, placing 42nd with a time of 1:07.58. Brandon Fischer, 17, placed 23rd in the 100 Breast with a time of 59.32, 19th in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:07.64. Finally, Brandon swam a 4:14.10 in the 400 IM to come place 36th. Caitlin, Neda, Lisa and Jen capped off the weekend with a great 400 Medley Relay swim, placing 20th with a time of 4:01.59.
