A mother and her adult son were found fatally shot in a Pleasanton residence near the Ken Mercer Sports Park on Wednesday morning, police said.
The case is being investigated as a double homicide but appears to be an isolated incident, according to Pleasanton police Lt. Nicholas Albert.
“We believe there is no immediate threat to the Pleasanton community,” Albert said in an updated press release Wednesday night. “This is an active investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.”
The situation unfolded at around 10 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 18) when officers responded to reports of gunshots coming from a home located on the 3100 block of Joanne Circle. Upon arriving, officers entered the home and found “two apparent adults with multiple gunshot wounds”, Albert said in an earlier press release.
Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department personnel pronounced the 67-year-old mother and her 28-year-old son dead at the scene, Albert said. Their identities have not been released publicly.
It was not clear whether police know who is responsible for the double-fatal shooting, and police did not immediately respond to questions to clarify the circumstances of the case or the search for suspect(s). Albert said anyone with any information about the shooting is urged to contact the department at 925-931-5100.
