A man was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in a Pleasanton apartment parking lot early on Christmas Eve, with an argument over loud music apparently escalating into gunfire, according to city police.
The incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 24), with police called to investigate reports of a shooting at Civic Square Apartments – a complex located across Bernal Avenue from Pleasanton Police Department headquarters.
Arriving officers found a 41-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his head and leg, according to Lt. Nicholas Albert. The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local trauma center and listed in critical condition as of Wednesday night.
The preliminary investigation indicates that an argument over loud music coming from a vehicle may have precipitated the gunfire in the parking lot, according to Albert. Police have not yet been able to identify the shooter.
“However, this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no immediate risk to public safety. This is an active investigation, and detectives are continuing to gather further details,” Albert added. “No further information is available at this time.”
The lieutenant encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to contact Pleasanton police detectives at 925-931-5100.
