A man was arrested in connection with a shooting in eastern Pleasanton on Saturday afternoon, according to city police.

The shooting occurred following a dispute at a home in the 3600 block of Vineyard Avenue – not far from the Bernal Avenue intersection – at about 3 p.m. Saturday (July 26), according to Lt. Nicholas Albert of the Pleasanton Police Department.

Officers arrived at the residence and found a 71-year-old Pleasanton man with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a trauma center for treatment of life-threatening injuries, Albert said.

Police said they had a 50-year-old man in custody as a suspect in the case, but they did not initially confirm what criminal charges they were pursuing. The Alameda County inmate locator stated the suspect was booked into Santa Rita Jail just after 3 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder and shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle.

Albert described the shooting as an apparent isolated incident, adding that there was no threat to public safety. “The relationship between the involved parties and the circumstances surrounding this shooting are still being determined,” the lieutenant said. “No further information will be released at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.”

The suspect remains in custody at the jail in Dublin with a no-bail hold, according to the county inmate locator. An initial arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday morning (July 30).
