Dublin Police Services officers are continuing to investigate a fatal shooting at an apartment complex on Hacienda Drive near the Central Parkway on Friday afternoon.
In a press release at 4:38 p.m., police said that they had found a man with a gunshot wound to the head upon their arrival at Emerald Park Apartments at 2:21 p.m., who was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting was being investigated as a homicide.
The suspect was still at large as of the most recent update, and the victim’s identity was not released. Police later reported that at around noon Saturday, a “subject of interest” in the homicide was detained in Barstow but they declined to release further details on who the person is and what their alleged involvement was.
The shooting, which DPS announced at 2:45 p.m., occurred at 5050 Hacienda Drive – which is the address for the Emerald Park Apartment Homes complex.
“There has been a shooting at 5050 Hacienda Drive. Dublin Police are on site. Please avoid the area. Details to follow,” police stated on X in their initial notification.
City officials shared the post from DPS on X minutes later, adding that there was no immediate threat to the public but advising people to steer clear of the scene on Hacienda Drive amid the ensuing DPS investigation.
At 4:27 p.m., police followed up with a notification that Hacienda Drive and Central Parkway had been reopened to through traffic following their investigation into the shooting. They did not share any additional details in the update.
As of 3:59 p.m., a lockdown that had been briefly put into place for the neighboring James Dougherty Elementary School had been lifted, following an earlier request from police at approximately 2:30 p.m. — shortly after school let out at 1:55 p.m. — to secure the campus as they conducted an investigation of the area surrounding the shooting.
“Thirty minutes after students were dismissed today, DPS informed us of an activity taking place off-site that required our facility to be locked down for precautionary reasons,” school officials said in a notification to family and staff at 3 p.m. “The few students and staff who remained on-site are safe and secure with police protection and will be released once all clear.”
The lockdown was lifted after approximately an hour and a half.
“We want to thank the Dublin Police for their swift action and efforts to protect the Dougherty community,” Dougherty officials said at approximately 4 p.m. “Dougherty Staff did a tremendous job.”
