The Pleasanton Unified School District Board of Trustees will consider approving an agreement with a construction company during Thursday’s board meeting for pool deck repairs at Foothill High School.
If approved, the agreement will award Strawn Construction, a contractor based in San Jose, $434,500 to carry out the repairs for the deck which, according to Thursday’s staff report, is riddled with cracks, flaking concrete and exposed rebar.
“In September 2024, the Alameda County Health Department conducted an inspection of the pool at Foothill High School,” according to the Oct. 9 staff report. “As part of their inspection, the Health Department found the deck to be in need of repair.”
Last November the district entered into a separate agreement with Aquatic Design Group, an architectural design firm that focuses on pools and water related projects, to develop the plans and specifications for the pool deck repair, according to staff.
The funds for the repair project will be taken out of the district’s $395 million Measure I general obligation bond funds, staff said.
The board’s open-session meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 9). Read the full agenda here.
In other business:
* Staff will be recommending that the board approve the purchase of new synthetic turf that would be used for the Hart Middle School and Harvest Park Middle School Field Renovation Project.
According to the staff report, the field renovation projects at each school will help “support student use and the athletic programs.”
Each of the proposals for the different schools includes plans for new field graphics and markings for various sports. However, the proposals would only be for the purchase and installation of the synthetic turf.
The district will come back to the board at a later date with a separate agreement regarding site work, demolition, drainage and other related work.
According to the report, the synthetic turn proposal for Hart Middle School would cost $724,140 and the one for Harvest Park would be $765,500. Both bids include alternate proposals that would bring the cost for both projects combined to a total of $1,598,327, which would be funded by Measure I bond dollars.
* The board will be looking to approve a resolution to recognize the week of Oct. 12 as the week of the administrator to honor those roles and the work they do for students and PUSD families.
