Welcome to the Playbook!

It is time for another week of the 2026-27 prep sports fall season! The Playbook brings you inside the East Bay Athletic League, offering features, opinions, and analysis of the sports in the EBAL. I’ve been covering the EBAL for over 40 years now and bring insight from my four decades of prep sports.
The Big Picture visits with San Ramon Valley multi-sport superstar athlete Gia Ryan this week. Find out where the SRV junior has already committed to college! Check out the game of the week as there is a big football game on tap.
EBAL Power Rankings sees no movement this week as the volleyball and flag football enter the final week of league play.
What to Watch has the top games this coming week. See where and when the local teams will lock horns. Fast Five takes a week off but will be back next week.
If you know of a great story, or have any questions, please reach out either by email at acesgolf@aol.com or by phone at 925-200-0719.
From the sidelines,
Dennis Miller, Playbook Editor

Oklahoma softball commit Ryan leads San Ramon Valley’s potent flag football offense

Imagine a high school athlete so accomplished they have Division I college offers in two different sports. San Ramon Valley’s Gia Ryan is such an athlete. And she’s only a junior.

Power Rankings as of Oct. 12.

2. San Ramon Valley (15-5, 7-1): The Wolves battle past Cal, winning 23-20, then go 1-1 in their own tournament, beating Livermore 24-12, then losing to Liberty 32-19 who moved to 20-1 on the season.
3. Carondelet (11-5, 6-2): The Cougars lost to Amador 19-6 in their attempt to throw the EBAL into a three-way tie on top of the table.

There are very few givens in the local prep sports scene, but one that certainly seems to ring true every year – the Foothill High girls’ volleyball team will be the thick of things at the end of the season.
