Local teams earn top awards at Global Finals

Seven Pleasanton teams competed at the Destination Imagination Global Finals last weekend, with two of the teams bringing home top awards.

The DI Global Finals is one of the largest creative-thinking and problem-solving competitions in the world.

“Stop Drop Go,” made up of Amador Valley and Foothill students, ranked third in the secondary level “Project Outreach” challenge — where students are challenged to identify, design and carry out a project that addresses at least one community need.

Hart Middle School students made up the team, “Where’s the Caffeine,” who placed second in the middle school “D” level for the “Feary Tales” challenge, which asks the team to present a team-created fairy tale about a character that faces and deals with a phobia.

According to DI Global Finals results, only three California teams brought home top medals — two of which were awarded to “Where’s the Caffeine” and “Stop Drop Go.”

Other Pleasanton teams who competed in Knoxville, Tenn. include:

• F.E.A.R.T.S. from Lydiksen Elementary School

Fifth place in elementary level “Project Outreach”

• Five Little Soldiers from Mohr and Fairlands elementary schools

Tied for 36th place in elementary level “Project Outreach”

• DI Is a Mental Sport and We Are All Insane from Amador Valley, Foothill and Dublin high schools and Hart Middle School

20th place in secondary level “Creature Feature”

• Pleasanton Sparks from Pleasanton Middle School

Tied for 36th place in middle school level “Lose to Win”

• Destination Imagination Academy from Alisal Elementary School

Tied for 42nd place in elementary level “Making Waves”

DI Global Finals was attended by 1,468 teams from 17 different countries.
