A man died at the hospital after being stabbed in a Pleasanton hotel parking lot during a confrontation with multiple people on Wednesday night, according to Pleasanton police.
Investigators believe the fatal stabbing was an isolated incident, Lt. Erik Silacci said in a news release Thursday morning.
The victim's identity has not been released yet, with family notification still pending. The suspects, who are unidentified, remain at-large.
This marks the first homicide in the city of Pleasanton in nearly eight years.
Police first received a report about a person suffering from multiple stab wounds at the Hyatt House Hotel on Chabot Drive at 8:21 p.m. Wednesday, according to Silacci.
Pleasanton police officers arrived to find a male victim injured in the parking lot, and they began rendering medical aid, according to Silacci. The victim was then transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he later died from his injuries.
The preliminary investigation determined man was confronted by multiple people in the hotel parking lot. An altercation ensued and the victim was stabbed multiple times, according to the lieutenant.
"The Pleasanton Police Department believes this is an isolated incident and the investigation is ongoing," Silacci said.
The victim's identity will be released after next-of-kin is notified, according to Silacci. Police did confirm the victim was an adult.
It is unknown at this point what caused the confrontation and why the victim and assailants were in the hotel parking lot to begin with, according to Capt. Larry Cox. There were no suspect descriptions to release to the public as of noon Thursday.
Anyone with information about the case can call Pleasanton PD at 925-931-5100.
Wednesday's fatal stabbing is the first homicide (non-vehicular) in Pleasanton since the Freeman murder-suicide in May 2012.
Editor's note: In addition to vehicular deaths, the past homicide statistic excludes the case in which a woman was murdered in Stockton and her body dumped in a trash can later found in Pleasanton later in 2012.
