A Pleasanton teen has been awarded a scholarship from the ValleyCare Auxiliary, which gives scholarships to high school seniors planning to enter the health care field.
Barik Singh, now a Foothill High graduate, was one of nine students to receive the scholarship — seven $4,000 scholarships, one $1,000 scholarship and one $500 scholarship were presented at the Auxiliary’s annual “Appreciation Luncheon” on May 11.
Singh received a $4,000 scholarship. He will be attending UC Santa Barbara majoring in pre-medicine, with the goal of becoming a physician.
Singh has been a junior volunteer at ValleyCare and was selected to participate in the Kaiser Permanente Summer Youth Employment program, where he had the opportunity to shadow an orthopedic surgeon.
Along with receiving an academic letter for academic excellence, Singh has been a member of the Cantabella Children’s Chorus for 12 years.
Other Tri-Valley winners include Augustine Chemparathy (Dougherty Valley) Sabrina Downey and Avery Harker (Granada), Alyssa Floris, Cassidy Herro and Sarah Partridge (Livermore) and Kayla Heffelfinger (Vineyard). In addition, De La Salle graduate Zachary Kline also received an Auxiliary scholarship.
