An SUV plowed into an Italian restaurant in Livermore Monday afternoon, injuring four people, a police sergeant said.
Police received a report at 12:45 p.m. of a vehicle driving through the Strings Italian Cafe at the corner of North Livermore Avenue and Las Positas Road, Livermore police Sgt. John Hurd said.
The Cadillac Escalade was parked in front of the restaurant when the driver thought the vehicle was set in reverse and hit the accelerator, Hurd said. However, the car was actually in drive and went forward, smashing into the building.
It traveled through the dining room and out the other side of the building, Hurd said.
Four people were injured, with the most severe injury being a broken leg, he said. The driver was unhurt. Hurd said there were 16 or 17 people at the restaurant at the time of the crash.
The restaurant’s glass was shattered, but there was no major structural damage, he said.

It just shows that some people do not know how to drive. Sounds like they hit the accelerator pretty darn hard from a parked position.
Couldn’t they just Yelp about how bad the food is there like everyone else?
Had the patrons been armed with automatic and semi-automatic weapons as our 2nd Amendment citizen rights to bear military assault weapons in Italian restaurants have been guaranteed by our founding fathers in the constitution, the tragedy may have been averted.
my motto is live ‘n let live…i rest my case!
maybe the driver is trying to sue because the building got in his way?
Time to ban SUV’s. Joe Biden says ‘if it will just save one life, it’s worth it’. Remember cars kill people, not their drivers.
