Repro Rights Gathering

A few years after the Dobbs decision, many people continue to feel exhausted, concerned and sometimes heartbroken about the state of reproductive rights.

This February, Tri-Valley Cultural Jews, your local secular Jewish community, is offering something simple and sustaining: time together, shared values and space to breathe.

TVCJ’s Repro Rights Gathering, taking place Sunday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. in Livermore, is a relaxed, welcoming afternoon centered on reproductive rights, Jewish Humanistic values, and the comfort of community. With lots of challah, open conversation and a lighter heart, the gathering is designed to feel supportive, rather than heavy.

This is not a lecture or a debate. It’s an invitation – to show up as you are, to listen and be heard, to connect over food and shared values, and to remember the strength that comes from being together.

Whether you come for the challah, the conversation, or the sense of belonging, you’ll find a space that’s warm, meaningful, and gently joyful. In challenging times, this gathering is a reminder that community itself can be an act of care.

TVCJ is proud to create inclusive, meaningful Jewish celebrations that reflect diverse Jewish and multicultural backgrounds. People of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and family structures are welcome and celebrated.

Reservations are required and a donation of $15 per non-member adult is suggested, though all are welcome regardless of ability to donate. For more information, directions or to RSVP, please email CulturalJews@gmail.com or call 925-399-8029.

We believe we can

Thank you (Jeremy) so much for supporting Alan Hu Foundation to create hope! Happy holidays!

With your support, the Alan Hu Foundation believes we can! This year, we hosted nine free educational webinars in our Mental Health Lecture Series via Zoom, presented by eminent professors, physicians and researchers. Recent lectures are available in English, Chinese and Spanish to serve a broader audience. Our newly updated website includes all of our previously recorded mental health lectures, valuable resources and ways to help.

Proceeds from our benefit concert, “Over the Rainbow”, supported 22 Alan Hu Foundation Scholarships for promising seniors from Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore high schools who will study psychology, psychiatry or neuroscience in college, or train as nurses, school counselors, teachers and first responders.

As a result, we were honored to be selected as 2025 Nonprofit of the Year by 16th California District Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan.

Thank you for your support and generosity. 100% of your donation is invested in our mission to promote mental health, raise awareness and remove stigma surrounding psychiatric disorders and support fundamental research for cures.

We believe we can, with heartfelt ambition.

The morality of our president

So our president, in a recent interview with the New York Times, stated that the only limit on his power, on a global basis, is his “own morality”. Let’s provide some context to that statement since morality is how most of us distinguish right from wrong. Trump’s “morality” has led him to:

* Brag on an “Access Hollywood” tape in 2005 that groping women is OK because “when you’re a star, they let you do it.”

* Walk into dressing rooms of contestants of Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe while the women are naked or only partially clothed.

* Say that, “If Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”

* Be found liable for sexual abuse E. Jean Carroll in 1996, a verdict that was later upheld by a federal appeals court.

And more recently:

* Indiscriminately bomb over 30 boats in South American waters killing at least 115 people.

* Abduct foreign leaders and then say he now runs the country and any money from the sale of that country’s resources will go to him.

* Decide that, “One way or another, we are going to have Greenland.”

* Allow his administration to label Renee Good, murdered by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, a domestic terrorist.

Given the multiple examples of how Trump follows through based on his “own morality”, then brags about it and acts with impunity by ignoring laws and bullying an inept Congress, we all have to pay more attention, take more action, speak out more, resist more, and expect more of our elected leaders to do more to reign in this tyrant. If that means impeachment, then so be it.
