Starting over the weekend, and just in time for the holidays, people are able to adopt adult cats and dogs for free from the East Bay SPCA.
Now through Dec. 31, the adoption fee will be waived for all dogs and cats that are at least one year old.
“By eliminating the financial barrier of adoption fees for families during the holidays, East Bay SPCA’s Holiday Homecoming special seeks to find loving homes for pets who would otherwise be waiting in the shelter into the new year,” according to an announcement from the SPCA.
The offer is made possible via a sponsorship from One Toyota of Oakland.
According to the SPCA, a decline in adoptions over the holidays leads to longer shelter stays for some animals and the Holiday Homecoming event is intended to free up space, staff time and resources for other animals that need veterinary care, behavior support and new homes.
The free adoptions will be available at the SPCA facilities in Oakland at 8323 Baldwin St. near Hegenberger Road, and in Dublin at 4651 Gleason Drive.
