The Dublin school district recently named director of TK-12 education Curtis Haar as its next assistant superintendent of educational services, effective this July.
A longtime district employee, Haar is set to succeed Matt Campbell, who was selected to replace retiring Superintendent Chris Funk. According to Dublin Unified School District officials, Campbell’s superintendent contract is slated for consideration by the Board of Trustees at its meeting next Tuesday (April 14).
“I am both humbled and honored for this incredible opportunity,” Haar said at the March 10 board meeting following the announcement of his appointment. “I would like to thank the Board of Trustees and executive cabinet for your confidence and trust.”
Haar began working at DUSD 20 years ago as a teacher at Nielsen Elementary School. He went on to work at Dublin Elementary School, James Dougherty Elementary School and a neighboring school district before returning to DUSD as director in educational services.
The board unanimously agreed to appoint Haar to the assistant superintendent position, effective July 1, at their March 10 regular meeting, according to a report out of closed session by Board President Kristin Speck.
“The moment that I met him, I realized that he was special,” Campbell said of his colleague of seven years. “I don’t think that I’ve ever really met an educator that cares as deeply.”
Haar has “transformed” the district’s approach to education at the elementary and secondary levels, Campbell added at the March 10 board meeting.
“When I was appointed the superintendent for next year, I knew that there was going to be one person that I wanted to be next to me and that was Curtis Haar,” he added.
The upcoming board meeting agenda is not available as of Wednesday morning.
